STRIKING BEAUTYA Marvel of Precision and Craftsmanship
Could this striking Central Plateau house beneath Mt Ruapehu’s foothills look any more at home? With its colour palette and three barn-shaped linked pavilions in vertical timber and metal cladding, the house appears totally at ease in its environs.

While the exterior is a nod to rural Aotearoa New Zealand, the interior is all about light, colour, playful decor and every modern convenience.

You’ll find widespread glazing, including clerestory windows, skylights and sliding doors; painted, wallpapered and tiled features walls; and striking timber features such as screens, built-in cabinetry and balustrades. With four bedrooms, three bathrooms and a large open-plan communal space spread throughout the 315sqm floorplan, and three pavilions, there’s much to explore.

GROUND FLOOR FEATURESPlayful Open Plan Spaces
On the ground floor, the kitchen spills into dining and living spaces which, in turn, open toa media room, as well as a verandah and patio. On this floor, you’ll find another lounge, office, utility room, powder room and a bedroom with ensuite.

UPSTAIRS FLOOR FEATURESLuxurious Private Retreats
Head upstairs and three more bedrooms and a bathroom stretch along the elongated upper floor. Naturally, the main bedroom has a walk-in wardrobe and ensuite.

EXTERIOR FEATURESA Blissful Outdoor Area
In a property that’s an all-round achiever, the outdoor zone is standout. Timber decking flows from the house, past a fire pit and terminates just past a spa pool. Bliss under the mountain and starry night skies.

Creative Problem-SolversFrom the Client
“Luke and the Under Construction team built our home in Whalefield Estate, Ohakune which was completed in September 2023.
We chose to construct a steel frame home, which presented a number of challenges along the way. We were grateful for the calm, positive and professional way that Luke dealt with each challenge (which were not of his doing) and push through to a resolution.
Luke and his team are creative problem-solvers, they are strong at coming up with innovative/cost-effective solutions to complicated issues that can arise during a build. Luke communicated with us well throughout the process with regular catch-ups and we appreciated his responsiveness by phone/email.
The Under Construction systems are well managed which allowed us to receive frequent updates/reports on the build costs. The under construction team is made up by a great bunch of people who were incredibly pleasant to work with over the 18 month build.
Equally, Luke has a strong network of other trades that worked well together. We are absolutely delighted with the finished product and cannot recommend Under Construction more highly.”
